And another

  • Dec. 27th, 2007 at 9:14 PM
I'm now two-for-two at AnthologyBuilder, so I'm starting to think that they accept any short fiction that they can confirm has been previously published somewhere respectable. But that doesn't invalidate what in my view is an excellent concept and a way of giving pre-published stories a new life.

Perhaps one day I'll have enough stories loaded that I can create a collection of published stories that I can give to my friends and family as a Christmas present. Or maybe my writer's group could do something similar. Or is that just vanity collecting/anthologising? Feel free to discuss!

Belated best wishes for a Happy Festering Season to all my LJ friends.

I don't see anything wrong with an anthology as a Christmas present or as a collection of your writer's group stories. It doesn't seem like "vanity" publishing is even quite the right term in this case - it has such a negative connotation. "Keepsake" publishing, maybe. You wouldn't be trying to justify your existence as a writer by showing people your "published" book. You'd just be giving some of your fiction to people that want it, in a friendlier format than Word documents or copied magazine pages. :)

So I think it sounds like a great idea. When I have enough published stories to reprint, I'll have to think about doing that for my family.
